Hotpoint ovens are designed to make cooking easier, with thoughtful features that help you get consistent results every time. From Active Multiflow’s even heat distribution to self-cleaning programmes, they take the effort out of everyday meals. Some settings, like Air Fry and Pizza mode, let your oven do the job of separate appliances, helping you save valuable space on your worktop.

To get the best from your oven, it helps to know what each symbol means. That’s why we’ve created this simple guide. Whether you’re baking, steaming, frying or roasting, here’s how to make the most of every programme on your oven.

Active Multiflow

Push the symbol that looks like an atom made up of multiple arrows all pointing to a central circle to switch on an oven’s Active Multiflow setting. This function allows you to cook multiple dishes on up to four levels simultaneously without worrying about flavour transfer.

Air Fry

A fan above a basket is the symbol to be selected when you want to double up your oven as an air fryer. As well as saving you space on your kitchen worktop, it can be used to make crispy food while using less fat than other ways of cooking.<h2>Child lock</h2>

Convection bake

The symbol for an oven’s convection bake setting is a parallel line at the top , a fan in the middle, and astraight parallel line at the bottom. Use this to distribute air more evenly around an oven’s compartment, so that meals can be cooked more evenly and efficiently.

Conventional heat

A pair of straight, parallel lines is the symbol that represents an oven’s conventional heat setting. It can be used to cook a wide variety of meals, though on one shelf only.

Defrost fan

Representing a fan with a droplet of water falling from it, this function can be used to defrost food before you start cooking.

Diamond clean

Distinguished by an image of an oven with a sparkling diamond, this function uses steam power to deliver your oven with a fast and eco-friendly cleaning cycle. You’ll just need to quickly wipe down your oven once the cycle ends.

Expert recipes

Click on the symbol with a chef’s hat to learn about the perfect temperature to set your oven for several different meals, as well as even the shelf position to place your food while it cooks.

Forced air

Represented by a fan enclosed within a circle, this feature will circulate hot air evenly around an oven to achieve a consistent cooking temperature.

Fan with bottom heat

A symbol of a fan with a straight, parallel line underneath should be selected when you want hot air circulated around an oven, as well as concentrated heat coming from below. A useful setting when making pastries or pizzas.

Full surface grill

A pair of jagged shapes sitting in parallel to each other represents the full surface grill function of an oven. It can be used to cook various meat- and plant-based dishes, as well as when you want to toast bread.

A couple interacts in a dimly lit modern kitchen with pendant lights, where a woman sits at the island counter and a man stands near the oven, surrounded by plants and contemporary appliances in a cozy evening atmosphere.

Gentle Steam

The symbol with three vertical lines enclosed within a cloud is an oven’s Gentle Steam function. Simply pour water into the dedicated recess at the bottom of the oven and choose from 3 steam settings to give you the perfect humidity levels for cooking bread, meat or fish to perfection.

Active Steam

The symbol with three clouds across a parallel line is the oven’s Active Steam function. Simply fill our extractable drawer with water and choose from 3 automatic steam settings to create precise humidity levels without any guesswork. From bread and desserts to fish, meat and vegetables, cooking nutritiously enhanced food to perfection.

Grill with bottom heat

"Batch cooking is a great way to make your Christmas dinner prep more efficient," says Nevin. "By preparing side dishes in advance, you're saving time and reducing the energy used to cook smaller portions repeatedly. It's an easy way to stay ahead and make hosting less stressful."

Light

Representing a lightbulb, push this symbol to switch on the oven compartment’s light.

Pizza 310°C

A dedicated pizza setting that is illustrated by the image of a piping hot pizza, this feature will see your oven reach temperatures as high as 310°C. The result is restaurant-style pizzas being made in a matter of minutes.

Plate warming

Keep food warm when you’re not quite ready to have a meal by selecting the oven’s plate warming feature, which has the symbol of three plates stacked on top of each other.

DualClean

Distinguished by an oven icon with a sparkling diamond, DualClean lets you choose your preferred cleaning method:

Pyrolytic Clean for a deep clean, burning away any tough stains at high temperatures. Or Diamond Clean to tackle everyday residue using steam.

Timer

Designed as a clock, this symbol can be used to adjust the cooking time in your oven and begin a timer to avoid you overcooking a meal.

Turbo grill

A symbol that has a jagged shape and then a fan underneath represents an oven’s turbo grill function. An advanced grill option, it’s a great option when cooking sizeable food – such as a large joint of meat.
