"JUST COME OVER"

For years, hosting felt like something that needed preparation - the spotless kitchen, the carefully planned dinner, the perfect table - but real life rarely works like that. In fact, fewer than 8% of Brits experience spontaneous hosting moments frequently. “Just Come Over” is about changing that, keeping things simple with open doors, warm kitchens, and unexpected guests welcome. And with Hotpoint appliances you can depend on, everyday life runs smoothly in the background - so when plans crop up, you don’t have to think twice.

That is why Hotpoint has launched Just Come Over, a campaign celebrating relaxed, real-life hosting. From last-minute dinners to casual catch-ups in the kitchen, it is about making home feel open, welcoming and easy again. With dependable Hotpoint appliances working quietly in the background, everyday tasks like cooking, cooling, cleaning and laundry feel easier to manage. So when friends or family pop round, you can spend less time worrying about getting everything perfect and more time enjoying the people around you.

WHY HAVE WE STOPPED SAYING "JUST COME OVER"?

Spontaneous hosting shouldn’t feel like something you have to prepare for. But for many, it does:
  • don’t feel confident inviting guests over at short notice.
  • say they don’t have time to clean or prepare.
  • worry their home is messy, turning a simple “come round” into a last-minute scramble.
 EXPERT HOSTING ADVICE

EXPERT HOSTING ADVICE

We’ve teamed up with psychologist Dr Angharad Rudkin, who knows a thing or two about bringing people together, to share her simple go-to tips for welcoming last-minute moments with ease. A last-minute text. An extra place at the table. Friends staying longer than expected. Because when your home works around real life, hosting feels effortless.

HOW TO BE MORE SPONTANEOUS IN EVERYDAY LIFE

MAKE ROOM FOR THE UNEXPECTED
BREAK YOUR ROUTINE IN SMALL WAYS
DON'T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT
SAY YES MORE OFTEN
PRACTICE BEING SPONTANEOUS
  • MAKE ROOM FOR THE UNEXPECTED

    TIP #1

According to psychologist Dr Angharad Rudkin, spontaneity is voluntary and unplanned, but busy schedules can leave little room for those spur-of-the-moment moments.

Our recommendation: Protect a little unscheduled time each week. Whether it's cooking something new, inviting friends over at the last minute or heading out for an impromptu picnic, leaving space in your diary can make it easier to embrace the unexpected.
  • BREAK YOUR ROUTINE IN SMALL WAYS

    TIP #2

Dr Rudkin explains that introducing novelty into everyday life helps interrupt the routines that naturally become stronger as we get older.

Our recommendation: Experiment with a new recipe, take a different route on your daily walk or swap your usual lunch for something different. Small changes can bring a refreshing sense of variety to everyday life.
  • DON'T WAIT FOR EVERYTHING TO BE PERFECT

    TIP #3

Perfectionism can sometimes stop us from acting on spontaneous ideas. Dr Rudkin notes that worrying about a messy home or feeling everything has to be "just right" can stop us from making plans in the moment.

Our recommendation: If friends or family suggest getting together, don't worry if everything isn't picture-perfect. Often, the most memorable moments are the ones that happen without weeks of planning.
  • SAY YES MORE OFTEN

    TIP #4

Dr Rudkin suggests that saying yes to spontaneous opportunities, even when they feel a little outside your comfort zone, can help build confidence over time.

Our recommendation: Whether it's trying a new hobby, making an unplanned meal or accepting a last-minute invitation, small spontaneous choices can help you discover new experiences.
  • PRACTICE BEING SPONTANEOUS

    TIP #5

Like any habit, spontaneity becomes easier with practice. Dr Rudkin explains that regularly trying new things can help build confidence and resilience.

Our recommendation: Challenge yourself to do one thing differently each week. It doesn't have to be a big adventure; even a small change can help break up routine.
